As we enter the final week of the last major of the year, some new faces begin to book their spots in the QFs, while few seasoned vets continue their dominance.
Novak Djokovic, fresh of his 5th ATP Rome title, stormed past Karen Khachanov earlier this morning to qualify for his 11th straight French Open quarterfinal.
Fellow big 3 member, Rafa Nadal, having already qualified for the QF, versus young sensation Jannik Sinner tomorrow AM. Nadal has his eyes set on a 13th French Open title.
Serena Williams, still looking for her 24th major to tie Margaret Court, pulled out of the tournament due to an achilles injury. Having also fallen out of the US Open in New York, Williams remarked, “I may not play again in 2020”.
Sofia Kenin, the 21-year old American, qualified for her first ever French Open quarterfinal earlier today. The WTA side of the draw is quite open, as heavy hitters Naomi Osaka and Bianca Andrescu are both out due to injury, Ash Barty withdrew due to virus concerns, and Simona Halep was upset in the fourth round by Iga Swiatek.
The French Open QF’s for Mens Singles are as follows:
Diego Schwartzman vs Dominic Thiem
Rafa Nadal vs Jannik Sinner
Andrey Rublev vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas
Novak Djokovic vs. Pablo Carreno Busta (a rematch of the infamous US Open QFs 2020…)
For Womens Singles:
Elina Svitolina vs. Nadia Podoroska
Iga Swiatek vs. Martina Trevison
Peter Kvitova vs. Laura Siegemund
