Pompeo looks to organize “Asian NATO”

Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo is in Tokyo this week, speaking with representatives from India, Japan, and Australia where he is entertaining the idea of a NATO-type alliance in Asia. This is despite the countries reliance on China for trade, specifically Australia, whose number one trade partner for exports is China.

“As partners in this Quad, it is more critical now than ever that we collaborate to protect our people and partners from the CCP’s exploitation, corruption and coercion,” Pompeo said Tuesday referring to the CCP. “We see it in the South and East China Seas, the Mekong, the Himalayas, the Taiwan Strait.”

“Once we’ve institutionalized what we’re doing – the four of us together – we can begin to build out a true security framework.”

US allies in the region seem to be in agreement that China’s growing military threat and expansionist vision as a global economic player is a long-term threat to the stability of the region.
