World #1 Novak Djokovic defeated Argentine Diego Schwartzman 7-5 6-3 to claim is fifth Italian Open title Monday.
Novak had to come from behind 0-3 in the first set to eventually claim victory against a determined Schwartzman.
Alongside his title, Novak surpassed his childhood idol Pete Sampras for most week at No. 1 with 287.
With Novak’s victory in Rome being his 36th Masters 1000 title, he has moved pass Rafa Nadal to claim the top name of the illustrious all-time list of most Masters 1000 titles.
With the French Open starting in just six days, Novak’s victory helped re-assert his presence as the leader of the pack for the ATP tour.
