Economic Announcements Week of Sept. 14/2020

The week of September 14 is sure to be eventful with major economic data releases being announced in the days ahead as well as several central banks, including the U.S. Fed, will be holding policy meetings.

Monday Sept. 14/2020

Starting today, economic data releases include Chinese Industrial Production for August, Chinese Unemployment, Eurozone Industrial Production (July) and Japanese Industrial Production (July). In addition to these events, the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party will elect a new leader, as Shinzo Abe resigned last week.

Wednesday Sept. 16/2020

Arguably the most important day of the week in terms of economic news. Wednesday includes the release of US Retail Sales for August, the US Fed Interest Rate Decision, and the Bank of Japan Interest Rate decision. Chairman Powell has decided to target an “average” of 2% inflation, instead aiming to keep the interest rate lower in the hope of stimulating growth within the economy to help tackle currently high unemployment.

Thursday Sept. 17/2020

Bank of England Interest Rate Decision (September), U.S. Building Permits for August, and the Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Index for September will all be announced Thursday.

Friday Sept. 18/2020

Canadian Retail Sales (for August), UK Retail Sales (for August), and the Preliminary Michigan Consumer Expectation and Sentiment (for September) will be released.

Central Bank Discussion

Throughout this week, we will be hearing from three for the largest central bank’s, their thoughts on the current economic environment, and their expectations for the future. On Wednesday, both the US Federal Reserve and Bank of Japan chairmans will announce interest rate decisions, with the former holding a press conference following the decision. On Thursday, the Bank of England will gives it own interest rate decision and press conference.
