MLB Fantasy Sleepers – 2022

As we all hold your breath until a deal is finalized between the MLB owners and the MLBPA, here is a sleeper at each position for the upcoming fantasy baseball season

C:

Daulton Varsho

If given consistent playing time, specifically in the outfield, Varsho has major SB upside at a position that is usually negative for the category.

1B:

Jared Walsh

Coming off a career year, and with his team fully healthy coming into the 2022 season, Walsh has a chance to hit behind Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. His batting splits are a cause for concern but the upside is quite tantalizing.

2B:

Jonathan India

The reigning NL ROY is a slam dunk pick this year. Upside is massive and his dual power and speed combo is rotisserie gold.

3B:

Wander Franco

Baseballs former No.1 prospect made a splash last year, with an incredible 40+ game on base streak and .350 OBP. Projections for this year however seem to not like him, and that’s why we do. Computers just can’t seem to accurately predict how skilled these top prospects are, think Fernando Tatis Jr. and Vladimir Guerrero Jr…

OF:

Jesse Winker

While the injury concern is real, Winker was having an MVP season before an intercostal strain ended his season in August. Prior to this, Winker was near the top of the leaderboard in most offensive categories, perhaps most importantly, his average of .305 (only 7 players ended 2021 with a batting average above .300).

SP:

Nathan Eovaldi

After numerous injury plagued campaigns prior to 2021, Eovaldi became the undisputed Red Sox ace last year, recording over 180 IP with an ERA under 4. Eovaldi’s stuff is electric, and is backed up by most pitching metrics. One of the more reliable SP3’s out there with room for upside.

RP:

Jordan Romano

“Markham Asylum” enjoyed a sharp 2021 season, establishing himself as the closer in Toronto once the Blue Jays finally returned to the Rogers Centre. With Charlie Montoya’s full trust heading into the new season, Romano should continue to pile on the saves as the Blue Jays look to take the AL East by storm.
