Thiago signs with Liverpool FC for £25 million

After weeks of speculation, Liverpool FC announced today that Thiago Alcantara has signed with with the club. The deal is worth an initial £20 million with the potential of a further £5 million in add-ons.

The 29-year old maestro was instrumental in Bayern Munich’s treble victory last year, culminating with a Champions League final victory over Paris St. Germain in August.

Thiago made evident that his decision to leave the German powerhouse was the ” most difficult decision of my sports career”. “My decision is purely a sporting nature as a soccer player, I want new challenges to develop myself further. Bavaria will always be my home, thank you FC Bayern.”

Thiago began his career at FC Barcelona, given his professional debut by none other than Pep Guardiola, current Manchester City manager. Guardiola scooped up the Spaniard again in 2013, when he was then the manager of Bayern Munich. Thiago had been at Bayern Munich for seven years.

Current Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick had nothing but good things to say about the 29 year-old. “He’s a wonderful person and an outstanding professional. It was very emotional today when he said goodbye to us all.”

Liverpool play Chelsea FC this weekend at Stamford Bridge, while opening their EFL cup campaign with a match against Lincoln City next Thursday.
