AOC and Omar play Among Us – Who is the imposter?

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a US Representative in New York, live streamed uber popular PC game “Among Us” last night, peaking at 435,000 viewers (behind only the Ninja/Drake stream which has 600,000).

Joinig her in game was Ihan Omar, fellow US Representative, along with popular streamers Dr. Lupo, Pokimane, and Disguised Toast.

AOC’s goal of the stream was to promote awareness about the impending November election (so she wants us to vote, right?).

The stream is further evidence that political figures are beginning to utilize streaming sites to advertise to a more niche audience, as it shows the individual in a more personable and humorous light compared to traditional means. Bernie Sanders held his first Twitch stream last year.

Donald Trump has been streaming all his rallies and Team Trump discussions/podcasts to his Twitch channel (ahead of the curve as usual for technology). One has to wonder how many people would tune in to watch Donald Trump play Among Us (S&S predicts 1 million +).

Could Twitch be a major advertising arena for politicians for years to come? S&S believes so. The audience of Twitch can range form teenagers to retirees, with an emphasis on the younger group. Many young voters (18-25) are frequent users of the site in the US, and may represent a demographic which is untapped.

A subsidiary of Amazon, Twitch, of February 2020, had 15 million daily active users, with 1.4 million averageĀ concurrent users.

Let’s see if AOC is able to hit champion rank on Rainbow Six Siege in her next stream…
